• Metric, I have no more faith in you. I am disappointed at the sellout you have quickly become since the release of Fantasies. Never again will I get to relive the amazing nights in small crowded venues as you play two feet away. Have fun with stadium stardom and tween twilights.

They haven't sold out, they've become successful, and with good reason.

Hipsters are stupid.

Yeah, I mean they turned down a major label recording contract. That's not very sell out-y to me. And would you honestly turn down an opportunity to work with Howard Shore, even if it is Twilight? Probably not. They said in the announcement too that they've wanted to make music for movies too so they're doing what they want.

Besides, I think they may blow over with the tweens (hopefully). Because 1) their music is a lot higher quality than what tweens generally listen to 2) there are other artists like Bat for Lashes on the soundtrack that I can't see the tweens clinging too so they probably will just know the one song by Metric and 3) Muse has two songs (last I heard) so they'll probably get more of the exposure to the tween audience. Sorry, Muse fans...

It's Twilight. And I'm obviously not a hipster, remember what Emily said years ago "Metric isn't cool, it's not for hipsters."

I'm sorry if I am coming off brash, but I really don't know how to feel about this. Metric is (was??) above that quality, but now they're the theme for Twilight?? That's not exactly quality. When I think of a band like them making music for movies, I think of something like what they did in 'Clean' or an Ellen Page film... I'm not asking for anyone else to empathize or share my opinion, I'm just stating how I feel.

While I will be the first to admit I'm not thrilled with the Twilight part, it's good for THEM and that's what matters. They not selling out, they becoming sucessful and it's because they're an AMAZING band. Yes, they are opening for Muse and yes they're are going to be stadium shows but they aren't going to leave us real fans (not the ones that love them because theyre touring with Muse or because the radio is playing them or because they're on the Eclipse soundtrack) and even IF they do sellout (which I doubt) I will always be able to say that I knewabout them and saw them in concert YEARS before the radio was playing them or they were playing stadium shows and I think you should be proud to say the same.

Yeah, Thom Yorke, Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, St. Vincent, Beck, Bat for Lashes, and Beach House are all sell outs. I hate them all because they wrote songs for a movie aimed towards a teenage demographic. How could they all do this? They must only care about money right? And let's all get pissed off that teenagers are going to hear something other than Beiber and Ke$ha. Bloody sell outs.

And I'm not proud of Metric's success. I wish they could only play to half filled bars.

Zayne, you haven't even heard the fucking song yet, don't assume it's going to be crap. That's the most ignorant thing anyone could ever do. You have absolutely no right to be judging the quality of an unheard song. Am I thrilled that one of my favourite lyricists is writing from the point of view as Bella Swan? Not at all, but it's Metric, and it's Howard Green. Chances are, musically, it will be brilliant.

What they did in Clean was nothing special, it was just a live performance of Dead Disco. It's not like they took Help and turned it into the theme of Twilight. I sincerely doubt they were jumping at the chance to work for Twilight, but rather, Howard Green, as he as jazz roots, as does Emily.

Oh, and there's still Black Sheep in Scott Pilgrim, and Ellen Page movies, despite the fact that I love her, have as little indie-cred as Twilight does.

To assume I'm dismissing the song as crap before listening under the sole basis it was written for Twilight is ignorance. I'm not. I'll probably listen to it that same day, although it will be the first released Metric song I don't pay for (I bought iTunes and disk versions of the first four). I was quick with my reactions, and somewhat "dark" to not want them to get big, but I've seen so many great bands just change and be different when they've gained mainstream cred. Us fans really do love them and I know we all want them to be successful, but I just don't know to what extent or at what expense. There's nothing like Metric.

Somehow I agree that Metric will not be going all "teenage pop mainstream" sheep just because they are involved with an extremely popular film franchise.

Gerard, Gerard, Gerard... Yet another sign of ignorance on your part. You were the first person to comment on the announcement of them opening for Muse at arena shows with what arguably most fans felt, but yet you're the first to comment on my opinion of them being in "Twilight". I have much more respect for Muse and stadium shows than that film franchise. I think it's really cool that Metric is getting to work with Howard Shore and all since Emily is really inspired and touched by his work, but I don't think they would have taken an opportunity like this in the past considering what the film is.

Ummm... You clearly don't know the definition of ignorance...

Woah woah! Come now Gerard, if I remember correctly you were FAR less than thrilled initially when this was first announced. Didn't you actually say you "didn't approve" of it? I totally don't care if your opinion changed, just saying it's kind of hypocritical to jump all over Zayne for not being on board either. Good to see you're loving your band again though haha.

Zayne, I was all ready to dismiss you as a whining fan until you quoted the "hipsters" interview. Hahaha won my respect instantly! That was stellar, and one of my absolute favourite (yet wildly ironic) Metric quotes out there. Also, I was kind of in the same boat as you initially. I selfishly will miss the Metric that I can talk my way into a front row spot to see...and I'm still waiting for my chance to actually talk to Emily and that seems to be getting further and further away! Plus, boooooo it had to be Twilight...one of the most awful pieces of crap to gain a wide following in our generation at least. (And Bella Swan is ABSOLUTELY not a "real, deep" character by any stretch of the imagination - sorry Emily, I'm not buying that and I don't think that you really do either - that's the closest to straying from their honest selves they go with this I think).

However, I don't think they're selling out (whatever that means, really); this isn't like "Metric-for-hire" for movie music or anything, if you actually listen to what Emily has to say about it she seems most thrilled about working with Howard Shore and is jumping at the opportunity to collaborate with a musician she respects and admires. How could you not be? And she does cite his better, earlier work and film score collaborations as the reasons for her admiration, so good on her there.

Slight side step here, Kristen Stewart actually isn't actually as bad of an actress as her role in Twilight makes her seem. She was actually kinda good in "Adventureland", I was caught off-guard that she could actually act. I mean, cut the girl some slack. Anyone stuck playing such a shit, one-dimensional character has nowhere to go in their portrayal of them. Actually, you could even say her shit, one-dimensional portrayal is brilliantly accurate to the character Meyer created haha.

Of course we all love them, I'm just swallowing my doubt and taking my love and trusting the band not to abuse it. Remember - that's what we're buying into when we support them! EMILY DON'T LET ME DOWN NOW! Know what though? She's so talented it can't NOT be amazing haha. I just hope the Twihards continue to miss out on Metric's excellence like they have been for the past 10 years...then I won't have to share!

Also, Briggins I love you hahaha!
