Oh dear. I had to leave a comment even though it made me feel like an awful person to do it. She HAD to know that was not cool to post such a mockery of a Metric song.
Oh shit, my video leaked!!! Don't hate, you guys. I'm a really good dancer!!!
No, that was pure shit. But I couldn't stop laughing. She reminded me a lot of my awkward inner pre-teen girl. Except my awkward inner pre-teen girl would never butcher a Metric song like that.
That was...uh...yeah. =P
:'(
Fuck it!
Absolutely horrible. I wanted to comment, but I wasn't able to.
Oh that was my fault. I left a lot of mean ones and now we can't comment and rate most of her videos anymore :P
Hahaha oh Gerard. I applaud you for that, only I can't even read the comments anymore...way to make her wizen up though!
"Oh that was my fault. I left a lot of mean ones..."
Dear Gerard, I have just become strangely attracted to you. That is all. Love, me
Anyone else think that chick is like... the most awkward person ever? She looks like a complete and total hot mess simply by existing.
I found that she replied to my comment, so I proceeded to basically send her an essay explaining why so many people left her negative comments - because in an hour with a flip camera she's disrespecting something a group of musicians have devoted more than a decade of their life to creating. We want to foster love for the band, not ridicule, so this made us mad. I'm looking forward to their response.
And yes, now the part of me comes out that cares less about preserving people's feeling - she is most DEFINITELY a hot mess. I don't understand why these people insist on posting YouTube videos, only to get (inevitably) mocked and then disable their comments. I really don't understand.
Can I just say that you definitely have a way with words, Alex. If you left a comment like that on my video, I would take it down, not because I felt it was an attack, but because I knew you were right. Maybe that's just because I already knew it was going to be ridiculous. Your comment had a lot of heart. Out of curiosity what was her response?
Hahahahahaha oh my. OH MY. I'm so sinking to a lower level by posting this here, but it's just too good to pass up. I apologize in advance for what the Metric community may do to her.
Pay special attention to the paragraph "They are NOT speical just because they worked to get where they are, so just get over it, right now." Know what? I could have just let it rest if she hadn't said that. I could have just let it go. But now I can't, because if nothing else, Metric IS fucking special for doing what they've done!
So here's the response:
"Wow, do I ever got alot to say to you. Okay, first off, I apoligize if I swear or lose my temper. You had spoke to me nicely and I should do the same, but you've really upset emilie and i, so I just can't act like nothings happened.
But holy shit, I understand, okay? I really do. "You love metric and anyone that EVER tries to sing their song, you're gonna pick on." [*note from me: this is NOT a quote from the comment I left...first of all I'd be able to write a grammatically correct sentence, and second I specifically said I actually appreciate when people cover Metric songs with respect, when "they share their love of the band in a way that it will make other people love them too, that's the most important part."*] I get you, i know exactly what you are, someone who has nothing else better to do with their life but critize what are suppose to be fun little music videos.
Metric? WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL??? yah, blahblahblah, they worked hard to get where they are, BUT SO DID EVERYONE ELSE. They are NOT speical just because they worked to get where they are, so just get over it, right now.
You know what? Yah, ^those few sentences came off very rude, but so has everyone that has commented. I would have totally been fine if they would have said something alittle nicer, All they did was focus on the bad parts, not once did anyone comment on the good stuff (accept for our personal friend who knows us) Did you ever stop to think that I worked hard on that video?? i spent a long time editing and putting it together, and no one even gives a shit about that part, it's "all about the lyrics" yah right, my ass.
You know what makes me more pissed off? that you think you come and send us a message and tell US what to do, who do you think you are? We are our own people and we'll do what we want.
Back to the metric&lyrics topic.. so how old do you think we are? I mean really.. were freaking 13 year old girls. We didn't make this video to get a frickin record deal, we dont care what we sounds like or look like, and we definetly didn't upload this for you to think that. We did this on a freakin friday night, just 2 people trying to have fun, we thought it'd be cool, Emilie loves metric and their songs, she has cd's and has been to there concerts, and you know what? she DOES know those lyrics, and she does love metric, just because she forgot a few words doesn't mean you can act like it's the end of the world. If you listen to the video, you can actually tell the songs aren't sync, so yes, emilie did know the lyrics.
And even if she didn't, whats the big ass deal? Like i said, we had fun making a video and we don't care what the hell you guys think. we decided we'd post it on youtube, and I think you are horrible person to come and pick us apart for not knowing every single lyric. Im absoulutley certain you don't know all the lyrics to every song you've heard, so comeon, like srsly? calm down and chill.
i don't know how many times im gonna have to say this to get it through your fucking head, WE ARE JUST TRYING TO HAVE SOME FUN! we aren't making a freakin real music video, DAMMIT were just having fun! you should try it every once and awhile, cause it's quite clear you don't know how to just let loose and have some fun when it comes to youtube videos.
Like srsly, wow, i can't believe this is happening right now. like did you srsly just send me a message telling us to learn the lyrics and have some respect for metric? I rly think you need to learn to have some fucking respect for people on youtube that are jsut trying to have some fucking fun."
Haha so it was QUITE wordy (yet still so poorly written!), but I have to say my original message was longish too...big surprise coming from me, eh?
Here's the response I've sent. Let's hope this ends here, I feel like I'm too old for this haha. And okay, yes, the first line is quite juvenile but I couldn't resist a chance to mock "like srsly" :)
"Well, you definitely are "freaking 13 year old girls". Like srsly, wow...
Emilie, this part is to you. How could you actually love Metric, even have gone to one of their concerts and seen the magic that is Emily Haines on stage, and still be able to support your friend saying that they are not special? I'm sad you somehow missed out on that, because a Metric show is truly one of the best musical experiences you can have; that's how I know "how to just let loose and have some fun" at least. And bonus, no getting overly irked by other people's opinions at a live music performance!
Cheers ladies, I hope you can continue to just "have some fucking fun" on YouTube then if that's what it's really all about for you. But I'm letting you know now, if you butcher a Metric song again expect more comments...and not just from me. I don't think I can tell anyone what to do, nor did I try to...if you actually look back at the message, I just told you why what you WERE doing was garnering you such intense criticism so that we could all be on the same page.
We're both quite justified in what we're doing girls, and those opinions are going to keep coming. Hope you can handle it! YouTube isn't a place for the faint of heart - I'm sorry you're just discovering it now. It is a great place for some sweet music videos though, you should check out Metric's real video for "Gimme Sympathy". Maybe you'll be able to discover there what you somehow missed out on at the show Emilie."
Oh oh guys, "don't worry, [they're] gonna continue to have some "fucking fun" and to "fucking piss [us] off" [they're] gonna do another metric song next time, so suck on that." :O We'd better watch out lest we have to suck on that indeed!
Oh dear. I think it's time to stop debating logic and reasoning with the tweens haha.
Hahaha I love all the attention this got.
I can hear that girls voice in my head when i read that. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Ooh, I srsly cnt wt for anth Met vid by ths 2.
Yeah, I'm dwn wit the tweens.
You know, it kind of hurts to type like that. Hahaha!
"And okay, yes, the first line is quite juvenile but I couldn't resist a chance to mock "like srsly""
Hahaha! Actually, it was quite perfect.
"if you butcher a Metric song again expect"
Ah...wait...did you just say....'Butcher'......Wow, I'm such a geek. :P
I really don't like how this girl got to got so Metric shows and I haven't. Lazy has tons better English skills, and she hasn't seen Metric yet. That sucks, like srsly. :(
Ariel, that just made my night. Hahahahaha way to be down with the youth of today! I know though with the shows. The heartbreak of such good music going to such under-appreciative ears while the rest of us here count the days 'til we'll have our next (or for many of us first!) chance to hear it!
And yeah, when I typed "butcher" definitely hummed that to myself. I thought it fitting. So juuuust the right amount of geek :)
OH MY GOD. That response was like a nightmare. I mean, the freakin' GRAMMAR. Like... shit son. My grammar wasn't that bad when I was 13. I could at least use the right form of "their" and "there." Come on, retarded bitches, learn to write well.
I don't think they're mature enough to appreciate the effort that goes into music. Like I remember when I was 13 I didn't yet appreciate No Doubt (I hadn't heard of Metric yet... Little did I know the wonderful, wonderful surprise was in store in just a few short years... *gets dreamy eyed*) and all the hard work that goes into their music. It took a while and with time I realized that quality music is rare. Anyone can strum a guitar and sing along *coughcoughTAYLORSWIFTcough* but to make the music that Metric makes... It's a gift. There seem to be a lot of Metric haters out there. They're like, "They're not that special." I personally don't get it. I don't get as excited about just any music the way I do about Metric's. Emily's voice is one that doesn't come along very often and the way it harmonizes with the boys' instrumentation... That's something special. And just like all the really awesome people I've met through Metric (aka all of you. Awwww, group hug!!!) is something I wish everyone could experience.
... Everyone except those 13 year old ho ho hos.
I'm sure she hasn't actually been to a Metric show. Unless she was sitting in the balcony with her Mom or something.
I'm glad Metric appeals to all ages/sexes/races and whatever, but what Joey said was kinda true. You never really appreciate art fully until you're out of high school. Or at least past Grade 11ish. I used to love No Doubt when i was a little guy. Tragic Kingdom was the first cassette tape i bought. It's still one of my favorites, but its meaning and significance has changed entirely as my appreciation for the effort of hard work put into the record has grown.
Maybe she'll be as cool as us one day. But not for now.
"And yeah, when I typed "butcher" definitely hummed that to myself. I thought it fitting. So juuuust the right amount of geek"
*geek high-five!*
"aka all of you. Awwww, group hug!!!)"
*Group hug*!!!!!!!!
:D
"Everyone except those 13 year old ho ho hos"
Hahahaha!!!!
Woooow I've missed all the fun, haven't I? hahaha Crazy-grammar girl should settle for Miley Cyrus or something, and leave Metric alone since they're "NOT speical". Srsly. ;)
Like srsly!
I admit, the video is pretty funny. The only thing is, if you take away the bad singing and the lyric forgetting and the video, you're left with a young Metric fan. What I've learned from listening to Lady GaGa interviews is that the fans are what keeps music going. If someone is a Metric fan at 12, they're bound to grow up into bigger Metric fans and listen to a lot of other good music. Music is supposed to be free, just to appreciate a different kind of art. I feel like Metric would like this video not because its funny, but because someone who is younger than the majority of their fans is appreciating their art. At a young age, copying or mockery is a form of flattery. I agree, the video is funny, but I in NO way think that they did it because they wanted to make fun of Metric. They're just tweens making a music video. I'm a little upset so many people sent them mean messages. My 13 year old self would definitely cry after that.
I could be wrong. And, I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, that's just my opinion.
Oh dear. I had to leave a comment even though it made me feel like an awful person to do it. She HAD to know that was not cool to post such a mockery of a Metric song.
