Ittssss Metric Monday! The day of the week where we focus on one Metric song and talk about what we love about it, what our favourite line is from it, what we don't like about it, etc.
Song in focus: Rock Me Now

I like that it's so DIFFERENT from all their other stuff. Emily basically speaks it but still has that sexy/OMGZTAKEMENOW quality to her voice. And I love Jimmy's vocals. So high, like a choir boy minus the... Nevermind, not going there hehe. Anyway, I like the lyrics A LOT. Some of my favorites ever. They really make me think. I almost read them for a poetry class I took last year but I didn't want to hear my class tear them apart (They were kinda snobby at times) so I picked a Rilo Kiley song instead.
I used to skip over this one, but when I actually listened to it all the way through I was blown away by the lyrics. It really is poetry, I feel like the whole thing is genius. Last Thursday, I was basically falling asleep in my Biology lecture and decided to write out the whole song in order to keep myself awake, not a word of a lie. I had the chance to appreciate it a bit more haha how timely.
I love that it's spoken! A lot of people seem to see "Hustle Rose" as the Holy Grail of Metric songs to see live, but I think (no matter how unlikely it is to ever happen) seeing Emily perform "Rock Me Now" from the front row at any concert - being meters away from her as she recited it - would be the ultimate.
It's a whole story, and basically a crystallization of why I love this band's music. Metric is NOT "baby, baby, baby, oh", they're arms of cobwebs, answers in green, and the Circus Circus Casino. Enough said.
Definitely agree with Alex. Seeing Rock Me Now live would be ultra cool, no matter how unlikely.
"And that night her mom said that the two of them and the now dead guy were the only 3 people who ever really lived in Las Vegas."
Classic.
And the pauses! The weird times she choses to pause or breathe throughout. "And she was...waiting for her mom to come back from working the blackjack tables at the Circus Circus Casino" That's actually the most unique aspect of the whole song, how could I forget.
"Rock Me Now" is like one of my most favorite Metric songs. I love everything about it. I love 'ah ah ah aah's. I love how dark it is. I love how not many people can pull off a speaking song, and make it sound amazing, amazing. I love Jimmy's singing in this song. Also, it might sound weird, but I love how the 'from wall to wall to wall to wall, go street to street to street' just flows into the piano intro of "The Twist" it just goes so perfectly.

AWESOME, Alex!!!! Haha *high five*
Speaking of "Rock Me Now", does anyone have the other version of "Rock Me Now", not the album one?
So I'll be the "black sheep" of this board and say that this is one of my least favorite Metric songs. Don't get me wrong, I love the lyrics, Jimmy's vocals, that this song's spoken, but I just can't connect with it. That's the only problem I have with it. I need to feel some sort of a connection to the words I'm listening, but this song does nothing for me. It's nice, lyrically interesting, but it just won't speak to me. =(

Nice, LazyD. You did it. It's 'bout time, girl. :D

hahaha I know, right? =P
The story line gets me every time. I'm not the biggest fan of the song musically, but the narrative sucks me in and keeps me interested.
I LOVE THIS SONG TO BITS. on the album, live, ANWYEHRE AHHH it's amazing. just. amazing. the lyrics, the song, the ambience of it, oh it's so beautiful.
