Ah, the opening track to a brilliant record. My favorite line is "Multiply, divide".

Great opening track! It sets you well up to what to expect from this album.
My favorite line is probably: 'Subtract my age from the mileage on my speeding heart, credit cards', with the runner-up being 'Multiply, divide'.
I also love the different sides of this song: softness on 'Hesitation' part and more rock-ish on the chorus.
I'm not sure if there's anything I can point out as being negative here.
=)

Ooh love this one.
Other than the lines already chosen (I LOVE "Multiply, divide"), I'd have to say my favourite is "Say you've been with me / this whole time". I love the emotion in the way Emily sings it, I feel like it's relatable in the way only the best music can be.
I also like that this is one of the songs I never seem to get tired of; I feel like every time I listen to it I can pick out something new. I think part of that is that for like three years I thought it was "Every ten-year-old AND ME / Soldiers think...". When I figured out that it was "Every ten-year-old ENEMY soldier" I was just re-intrigued again for some reason haha.
This is one of the songs that I'm genuinely sad I never heard live, and probably never will. It's just stellar.

My favourite lines are:
Looked for you downtown
Wound up in a movie with no story
Now it's late and you are nowhere to be found

and thenn I think this verse:
Every ten year-old enemy soldier
Thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes
But she doesn't make wishes on them
When she wishes, she wishes for less ways to wish for
More ways to work toward it
Ten year-old enemy soldier
Our falling bombs are her shooting stars

is ridiculously amazing. This is the stuff I loved that Metric wrote about. It just seems so much more important to me now , like they're saying something! Rather than Fantasies, that is :P but yeah that verse makes me feel sad because that's true and happy because emily's singing about it and just lots of stuff. whee.

God, I'd love for Metric to do more OWU songs live... I freakin' love this one.
My favorite part is the "Every ten-year-old enemy..." one. I love the way Emily sings it. And I love the way she sings "hesitation." Mmmmmm... =)

"It just seems so much more important to me now , like they're saying something! Rather than Fantasies, that is :P"

I understand what you're saying to some extent but I still think they're saying something, they're saying it's ok not to think about all the negativity that surrounds us, it's ok not wanting to be sad all the time, it's ok to be hopeful. At least that's what I take from the album, and that's what I love so much about it. She still writes about the same things, just in a brighter perspective.
=)

"Every ten year old enemy soldier thinks falling bombs are shooting stars sometimes, but she doesn't make wishes on them."

I remember IOU as the first Metric song I listened to after cautiously purchasing Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? after Live It Out turned around my musical world. It was definitely worth it!

I love this song. Done! hahaha jk. I love the "say you've been with me" part, because I like......repetition....? I love how strong the snare is, except for some reason I always hear Hayley Williams saying 'hit that snare' in my head. But what I mostly love about the song, is the bass line.

My favourite part is when it ends because I know Hustle Rose is coming on!!!!

haha, not actually. I'm not the biggest fan of the song. Although I do like the vocal delivery during the enemy soldiers stuff.
