Ittssss Metric Monday! The day of the week where we focus on one Metric song and talk about what we love about it, what our favourite line is from it, what we don't like about it, etc.
Song in focus:
Glass Ceiling
p.s. I'm going to be really busy with school the next few weeks so expect more questions :P
I'm not a huge fan of the song. But I really like how chaotic this song sounds with the guitars, the keys, the drumming, the bass...and I must say I just love the vocal effects and how well they time when it should come in.
Did you change your name, Briggins?
P.S. Briggins, I was just looking upon the 'Black Sheep' comments on Facebook, and yours is brilliant. :)
This is one of my favourites from Live It Out! The vocal melody in the chorus is absolutely beautiful, and I've found the lyrics to be strangely empowering.
@Ariel. I noticed I am now Jbriggins. Don't know how that happened or how to change it back....
Glad you like the comment. I want a signed copy of Fantasies! haha
For some reason, of all the Metric songs my friend played for me before the first Metric concert I went to (to introduce me to the band) I remembered this one the most. Fantastic guitar, especially in the opening. Fantastic piano after the chorus...I remember it as being extremely energetic live and LOVING it. Also love Emily's "Only know what I'm told / Only know what I'm told!" and the "Whooooo, whoooo, who let it end up on the ground?". The other lyrics are so intriguing ("amputate plasticine"!?); for me, "Glass Ceiling" is to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" as "Metric" is to "The Beatles" if you understand what I'm trying to say. I think part of that connection comes from me thinking "ceiling" and "sky" though haha.
Briggins (your name is back to normal for me I guess) I second Ariel's comment about your comment. It made me laugh :) Hope we still hear some questions from you during your busy weeks then!
Great song, though it wasn't instant love. Actually pretty much all of the songs from Live It Out were growers, except for Poster Of A Girl - I've been loving that one ever since I first heard it!For some reason I really love the way she says 'Can't count'. It just sounds awesome. Oh and I really like the 'pa-pa-pararara' (or whathever it goes) bit in acoustic version. I can't help but sing along.
;D
