I told this one in another post... but I still jizz thinking about it so I'll tell it again!
I was front row when Metric was in Minneapolis in June and Emily grabbed my hand during "Front Row." Everyone around me started screaming and calling me a "lucky bitch." If only I could build a time machine...

Also, the bouncers were struggling to not like... rock out or whatever during Dead Disco. Shows how great the band really is =)

Well, best I've got is getting into a bar for their acoustic performance in April (a few months before my 18th birthday, yay for door guys who don't care and radio DJs encouraging me to flaunt the law!) and making friends with the bouncer on their Fall Tour show so he let me pretend the "row 13" on my ticket (that I worked out of the local radio station with a little bit of Metric trivia because they were first released on my birthday!) actually said "row 3" so that I could rush the stage. Totally worth the work. At the previous Metric show I decided "next time I will touch Emily's hand!" and I got to! So now I'm at "next time I will talk to Emily!" and I'm crossing my fingers already.

Band-wise I met Joules after that show, which was awesome :) He was just a really nice guy and I'm so glad he took a few minutes to talk to us.

Gerard I KNOW has the best story here...how mad would you have been if I'd just taken the whole thing and pretended it actually happened to me haha ;)

At the show I went to, Emily was very hesitant to touch the audience. But, I kept putting my arm up, because well, I wanted her to touch my hand lulz. And, my friend kept telling me "shes not going to do it, shes not going to do it." But, I keep hope. Then, during Stadium Love, Emily got on one knee RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME so we were looking eye to eye, and sang "Every living thing, pushed into the ring. Fight out to wow the crowd. Guess you thought you couldn't just watch."
I think that's the moment I died. She continued to touch my hand and look me (and the rest of the audience) in the eyes for the rest of the night.
She is SUCH an angel.

Great stories everyone!
=)

Alex - I would have been so mad that I would have... I dunno... Corrected you on your wrongness :P

Also I think Jaime has the best concert story, but I forget if she posts here ever.

Oh yeah! Jaime is definitely a winner too, how many other fans would Emily know by name? And she does post here occasionally, I just think it's been a little while.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa! What's Jamie's story?! I haven't been posting here long enough to have heard it =(

I don't know Jaime's story either, but I have a feeling I'm gonna be SUPER jealous when I find out!

Jamie's story does ring a bell, though I can't really recall what happened...something awesome, for sure!haha Anyone care to share?
=)

"I don't know Jaime's story either, but I have a feeling I'm gonna be SUPER jealous when I find out!"

Moi aussi!

I gotta hear this Jamie story, it's like the talk around 'town'. The suspense is killing me. :P

This story makes me so happy every time i tell it :)

I went to see Metric for my first time when they came to RI on Aug. 2nd 09' for WBRU's summer concert series & did an acoustic set. Joules had just became a dad so it was just Emily & Jimmy. Not many people knew any of the words to any of the songs they played, except Help, I'm Alive. She said they were going to play some older songs. I got really excited & I guess it was noticeable. She said they were going to play "Live it out" & I threw my arms up & cheered. She pointed to me & said "This is especially for you because I just made you so happy!". The was my first time seeing my favorite band, & she noticed how happy I was to be there. I was there specifically to see them. I ended up seeing the whole band on Nov. 20th 09' & it was another killer time. Can't wait for the next time!

When Metric came to ATL in November I was 5ft away from Emily Haines, and it felt like a dream. I really wished she grabbed my hand, but she only touched one person during the whole show. sigh. The only exciting thing that happened was when the whole band came on stage and a group of people and me were reaching out our hands and Joules Scott Key grabbed mine. I guess I just felt special after that? hahhaha

I LOVE Metric, and I know my story is really awesome and a lot of other people have similar ones, but I find that Emily really doesn't love touching or getting too close to the fans. The energy in our crowd was SO awesome (Gerard, I believe you were there waiting with me outside, and me and several others wouldn't shut up about the excitement.) but it took Emily over half the show to even sing into someone's eyes (me). And, once she touched my hand, she touched my friend Jeanny's. Then, it was like one other person and she was done. She looked me in the eye a couple more times, but that was the most we could get after that.

Then, after the show, Joules jumped down and grabbed me and Jeanny's arm and had a full conversation with us about how pumped we were and how they should come here more often.

I still love Emily, and it doesn't make me like her any less, but I wish she was just as excited as Joules. Her stage presence is SO intoxicating, I feel like we'd all just die if she connected more.

wow! those are some really amazing stories!!!

Oh wow I didn't realize my name was being tossed around so frequently, I'm so sorry I would have responded sooner! My story, well I don't know if it's necessarily a winner here but it's my favourite :)

The story goes that I decided to escape my life for a bit and follow metric around to 8 shows in 9 days. During this time I met the band 3 times, and had a great conversation with Emily. I work in 3rd world countries in the summer and when I travelled to Cambodia I met an incredible girl whom had experienced horrible things in her life, but was very moved by one metric song in particular. She gave me two statues one for myself and the other I was to give to Emily. That was two years ago, and just a few months ago when I was in Boston I left it for the band. So after a show in Baltimore I was led to the bus by Josh where Emily was waiting and we just talked about travelling and the statue which she now keeps at her home in NYC. She was very appreciative for my letter, and just an all around great person to converse with. I talked mostly of my experience, while she talked of her travelling plans, and signed some things for me. We said bye in Pittsburgh and that was the last show I was at. Oh and yes, they do remember my name, I was so moved that they actually took the time to thank me in their post a few weeks back. They are such great people, I will forever remember the time I spent with them :)

I hope all of you who haven't had the opportunity to meet them get the chance to do so soon. You'll never forget it!
